Twice a year the whole school spends two days camping in Highland Forest. This outdoor adventure provides us with a wonderful way to get to know each other better and to share in the delights of nature. Our two days are full of hours playing by the pond, catching and releasing critters, hiking in the woods, rolling down the grassy slope at Skyline, eating buttermilk pancakes slathered with butter and syrup and playing our favorite hiking games: Camouflage, Flash Flood and Dead Bug. This year we hunted and collected seeds. Back at camp we classified the seeds. We also searched for bugs and found blister beetles, grasshoppers, wooly bear caterpillars and more. The two blister beetles provided additional entertainment. They mated before our very eyes! The children loved drawing these bugs in the habitat they were found in.
